As for the smileys, don't paste them. If make a reply, there's a bunch of smileys to you're right. Just left-click on one of them, and they appear in the text.

And make sure the option (at the bottom) to Disable BBCode is unchecked.

Read the manual? Where's the fun in that? Real men don't don't read manuals, any more than they ask directions when driving. Seriously though, I didn't find any mention of it in the manual I printed out (79 pages!). If it's there, I guess I missed it. It might have been in the manual for the original game, but I never played the original.

I think I ran into a real bug tonight, though. While on a mission, I jumped from Junction to J900 to Telar to Valhalla System to Eden. After visiting the Church of Man on Planet Eden, I cycled the navigation system and found a jump point labeled "unknown". I jumped through it, and found myself in Rikel System.
Once there, I could visit Vishnu and Siva, and there were jump points to Midgard, 44-P-IM and New Detroit, but there was no way to return to Eden. Apparently the jump from Eden to Rikel is one way only.

And what's with that "Sanctuary Moon" in Eden System? It takes three "N" entries to cycle the Nav System to the next point. And it's this big, juicy asteroid in space, but you can't land on it. What's it for? :D

Guess you're not married...? If you are, you'd ask anyone for either directions and/or a shot through the head...

Page 44, indicator lights. :)

For you're other questions, i guess you're playing Righteous Fire already? If not, play it, and you might see....

I don't know if anyone has covered this, but I had a problem with the game starting in win xp. I found that if I made a shortcut on my desktop then right-clicked on the icon and chose properties, there was a box to change compatibility modes. I chose win 95 and had success in starting the game.

After playing, when I tried to start again, it took a long time for the game to start. I finally opened task manager and found several processes still running. I hit stop process on all copies and had no problems after that.

I still have the original game on the original CD loaded on another computer that I keep permanantly in DOS mode.

Ran into a problem with my jump drive that appears to be identical to the problem fixed by revision # 12792 in Vegastrike. Every time I jumped, I would take damage to my shields, even though there was nothing near to either side of the jump. Even though the repair droid was working fine, and no damage was showing when I went to the ship dealer, I went ahead and replaced my jump drive anyway, and the problem went away. Any chance that the fixes in that revision in Vegastrike might make their way to Gemini Gold in the near future?

Loads and runs under Windows 7 on my laptop, but I want to run it from my XP Home machine. It won't start. It says
'The application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem.'
Windows is current on all patches. Video driver is current. I ran the config file and saved it. I run other graphic programs OK. Loved it from years ago...want to do it all again...but on my XP machine.
Any ideas?

Just out of curiosity, did you try reinstalling?

This problem has been reported before, but I can't remember the solution now. You can search through the previous postings to find the thread. However, from the vegastrike faq:

I get a message "The application failed to run because of an incorrect configuration, reinstalling may fix this problem"

This means you have not installed the VC8 re-distributable package.

Look for an executable called "vcredist_x86.exe" in the bin folder and install it as Administrator.

If you do not have that program, download and install it from Microsoft

The vegastrike web site also has a list of known graphic cards that do and do not work.

Hope this helps.

I ran that program (installs C++) but no help. Still failed. Curious, I downloaded and installed Vega Strike. I ran that same program under Vega Strike and it ran the game ok. So I shut down Vega Strike and then Privateer ran!!!hmmm..
I uninstalled Vega Strike, and Privateer still runs ok.

I have no idea what got fixed, unless the version of that installer for
C++ that came with Vega Strike was what it needed.
Thanks for the help.

Glad to help. I can only speculate that one or more of the files that came with Vegastrike overwrote whatever it was on your computer that was keeping Gemini Gold from running.

This game looks great. I though the truck in Achilles was going to ram over me.

Great game even though there have been some setbacks. Like after battle my repair list was all green, but ship movement and speed was decreased and activating afterburner forced speed to zero. damn lazy repairbot.
Scanners got so hefty repair cost that it's cheaper to buy repairbot. I actually got working ITTS (Hunter AW Infinity) even though it was damaged (color coding all grey), but then I got mysefl repairbot. Colors where back ,but ITTS didn't work anymore (targeting triangle stays in center of target).

Happen to me too. I saved in Edinburgh (New Caledonia) and when I loaded I find myself in Glasgow (New Caledonia).

I will continue my adventure even if I had lightsaber in my ass. That's just how good game Privateer is.
