Compiled a new binary for win32 using the latest vegastrike source and it works for the current GG data. Sorta... There are a few issues that will need to be worked out before it will be fully functional. Most of this seems to be data side, so some of the python files will need to be modified.
First, if you want to compile the latest VS binary yourself to try this out you will need to go under the Preprocessor Definitions and remove the NV_Cubemaps define. At some point after .5 was released VS switched from Spheremaps to Cubemaps. The spheremap code is still there though, lucky for us
Issues I had.. I could buy a ship, fly the ship, and buy non weapon upgrades, but if I tried to buy and mount weapons it would cause an error. Beyond this I don't know if there are any other errors in the python code that will need to be sorted out. Kinda hard to test anything without being able to blast anything.
If anyone wants to be a tester and help sort the bugs out I can upload a package with the files you will need to run this under windows or you can use the vegastrike svn to grab the source code to build it yourself. Linux users, you will need to download and build from source. Make sure to take out NV_Cubemaps though or the game will crash.
I am going to post the stderr text over at the VS forums and see if anyone over there can help sort out some of these errors.
For windows users you will also need to svn the vega-vc9 folder as well as the vegastrike folder
