Thanks :-) I see 234 downloads already, you are the only one who likes it seems

So far, I tried several ways to play, including even purchasing Jump Drive right at the beginning, and leaving Troy to New Detroit, was fun as well)

Thank you

Not sure if there is much more to "keep up"... Atm, "hunter Toth" defence mission is probably a bit too tough (since I put missiles onto Retro ships), on the other hand it was a really really tough mission in the original game, so I'm not sure is it a good idea to strengthen Toth's ship now...

Another thing, is it will be better to include my patch into SVN... but I've customized few guns quite significantly compared to original Priv, so someone might not like it...

I really like the idea of the Orion having a 3rd gun mount. However I understand that many people want to keep the feel of the original Privateer.

The problem really is that the concept of that game was totally different from today's game concepts. Privateer is in today's terms an open world game. But today open world games are huge and offer loads of choices and a huge variety in items (and are, not surprisingly as you might see below, very often extremely modding friendly).

But those days Privateer was just a spin-off in the Wing Commander series - a game series where the focus was clearly set on story telling (just look at WC3, and hey - text adventure anyone?). So was Privateer, only that they tried a new concept there, a more open approach - but not an open world game in today's sense.
The main aspect still was the story telling, the other spaceships were just intermittent and to make it less frustrating (saving credits until you can afford the Centurion, which was the vessel to master the game). You could go the harder way and buy a Galaxy and trade, or the easier way and buy an Orion and fight. You could also try and keep the Tarsus until you could afford a Centurion (possibly the most time-consuming way, but also the least rewarding). That were your choices. But in the end, you should end up in a Centurion.
[The Tarsus really was no option - it had two missile racks, I guess to make it easier for the start as the Gemini Sector could be harsh at places, but the lack of cargo capacity and speed for a trader and the lack of armor and speed for a fighter encouraged you to quickly move up. Aside from not being able to fly another spacecraft..]

So back on the case:
As a Wing Commander game I want it to be kept as strict to the original as possible, otherwise the storyline wouldn't be as prominent as it's supposed to be.
But seeing it as an open world game I want to be able to choose literally any spacecraft or even to complete the game in a Tarsus (I think a few tried, but did anyone make it past the blockade?) or play in a Broadsword or.. but where to stop?

Today I tend to see Privateer as an open world game, because I know the story and I just love to stroll through the Gemini Sector. So I'd like to have the Orion a 3rd gun rack. I also like some weapons being modified to offer a more round experience, and to make it possible to fly the Tarsus in the later stages. I'd also love to fly the Drayman or Demon, but that's a different thing.

So why not keep this a mod? Inserting it in the SVN would render Privateer, well, not Privateer anymore. But offering a mod for those who just want to spend a little bit more time in the Gemini Sector is just great!

By the way, now that I finished writing all that down (did anyone read it anyway? Does it make any sense? Should I take my medicine?) - I have an idea:
couldn't there be a mod directory included in the SVN, something were people can choose stuff from after installing the game?

I've been playing for a few days now since downloading your patch. It's great thanks, makes a big difference especially at the start, never saw any retro's or pirates until I left Troy and it looks well balanced everywhere else so far. Also I started getting food dispensers for the first time, I thought at first they were something you had added.

So in general great patch,

Thanks :D

Big bug I've noticed with your patch is when purchasing commodities, it doesnt check the cargo space in your ship. Sometimes I purchase over the cargo limit, it lets me purchase the items, but the items that are over the cargo limit mysteriously disappear, eating up my money. I checked with the 1.03 GG and it has the "NO ROOM IN CARGO" check.

Also, I've seen some odd behavior from ships spawned in Escort missions, namely the Broadsword. Its turrets continuously shoot at nothing when there are no enemies and if you comms the ship, it gives you options as if it were Hostile to you. However, the Broadsword doesn't turn around and attack me nor do its turrets aim at me.

If this was your last patch, which files should I not install to go around these two errors?

@Balu

your vision definitely makes sense ))
My goal was to mostly preserve the feeling of original adventure, not to create a different game. I feel like the game had a few clear unfinished aspects - trading, guns selection and balancing, a bit too weak Orion etc. So I tried to correct all these things, and not to add something that ruins the special Privateer atmosphere :)
If you seriously think about playing the game as an "open world" AFAIK there is a mod of this type - Parallel Universe (PrivPU). Try it out if you didn't already :)

@Skodyn

it's always nice to hear such things)) For my taste, the whole game is pretty well balanced... probably you know it, just in case - look through the .doc file within the patch, and weapons/trading pictures - should help you plan your actions

I did this one in a Centurion outfitted with dual missile launchers loaded with IR missiles, so I was able to kill the Retro Talons pretty fast that way. Without dual missile launchers it would probably be plenty tough.

I was able to save him only from my 4th attempt, even with dual launchers :-\
So I doubt it's doable flying the Orion...

With the new binary working out i'm going to test these changes against it and see how it does. Has anyone used the tweakpack? Need feedback for it.
