Well, I'm flying back and forth in Troy, dodging Retros and trying to get enough money for a better ship, but it's taking forever. Could anyone tell me what to jigger in the savegames to get more credits?

I don't know what to alter in a savegame file (and I don't know where the savegame files are located either).

However if you want to help yourself earn more credits, you can earn 100K in roughly one hour by resetting the commodity exchange inventory.

First you buy all the wood, let's say. Then you save, and then load that exact save. You will find a lot more wood for sale. Get a full 125 unit load.

Fly to the Star base. Then sell the wood and buy all the Tungsten, Gems, and then Iron (For filler) you can. Save and reload the save.
I do this a maximum of three times for the Tungsten (best profits) and Gems (next best). After 3, I simply fill up on Iron (lowest profits) and then fly back to the planet.

Rise and repeat. It's a bit boring but you will see your credits rake up very swiftly. With the apx. 100k / hr, 7hrs of grinding will net you 700K, enough for a nearly tripped out Centurion or the larger trader ship (can't remember it's name, it's too early in the morning).

This post inspired me to make a youtube video on this event.

It's ammature and my first video attempt, so forgive the stuttering for now, I'll improve.

I'll also take requests if anyone wants me to show anything else in the game.

It's here:

I don't know if this is a bug...
After a mission battle with the Kilrathi, I tractor beamed every floating commodities/pilots my Centurion could carry.
When I arrived at a base, I was surprised to find I have five level 7 shields generators in my cargo. It's not even in my cargo, it's in my ship manifest.
So I sold it in the Commodities exchange for a whooping 100k credits a piece.

Okay, I'll definitely buy a tractor beam, then.

This is actually an easy fix. On a Ubuntu system go to ~/.Privgold100/save and look for your saved game file. Then open it in any text editor.

The first line will look something like this
Gemini/Troy^831143.937500^centurion.begin|.....
the number after the ^831143. is your credits, just change it, save and reload the saved game. If you have multiple saved games you won't even need to shut the program off, just load a different saved game make the change and reload the game you want.

Makes the game worth playing, then you can outfit a centurion with all the goodies and just goof around.
Have fun
By the way in this file you can adjust the reputation settings just to make things interesting.

Thanks a lot. After a little experimenting, I discovered it's actually the first number you need to change.

I've been trying to find the savegames in the Privateer directory. It is a Windows Vista system, and the installed directory is C:\Program Files (x86)\Privateer. In this directory, I can only find one savegame "New_Game". I also found its corresponding directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Privateer\.privgold100\serialized_xml\New_Game.

Despite having several saved games, e.g. "The Begining" and "Tarsus Money Lander" I cannot find these file names or directories anywhere on my PC.

I have tried editing the New_Game file with success (the money edit), but I wish I can find the other saved games so that I can have even more fun!

Please can some one help me?

I found the save game locations from another post - for Vista, they are here:
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Privateer

Enjoy!!

Download a cheat utility named TSearch it's free. You can then alter Credits to your heart's content :D
