I was real excited when I found this game. I loved playing the original back when it came out, but I never got a chance to play the "Righteous Fire" expansion. Now thanks to this game, I can.

However, upon installation, I was frustrated to discover the characters don't talk! All that happends is text appears over their heads. Why is this? In the original game, they all talked. It shows their mouths moving. So why not here? Why take that feature out?

Is there some setting that makes it so they do talk, or do I have to put up with this?

Been awhile since I played. I thought they did talk.. guess I will have to reload and see.

If they don't.. well its probably due to the lack of extra image files. Not sure how the original handled things.. May be something you have to deal :(

Someone else may have a more accurate answer though before I do.

I beleive the project is simply not finished :-(
Thus, there are lots of glitchy things in the game, especially eye-candies and such...

Well that's a shame. Kind of doesn't feel worth playing just to see text appearing over stationary portraits. I don't mind playing very old games that have this, but this isn't how Privateer was so it doesn't feel right.

Well, it is a free, community driven project entirely dependent upon contributions by developers, graphic artists, etc. Nobody stepped up to create the graphics needed for the talking heads, so it never happened. If someone does step up, then it will happen. In the meantime, I (with no programming or graphic ability whatsoever) remain grateful for what has been accomplished and for the chance to keep playing my favorite game of all time. Considering how much I paid for it, I think I got a pretty sweet deal.

The righteous fire expansion was delivered in two different versions, as 3,5" Floppy without spoken text / talking characters and later as part of the CD with spoken text.

In PGG is the "non spoken" expansion included, I don't know why. Maybe the programmers didn't have the correlated soundfiles.
In the (obsolete) privateer remake it was the spoken expansion.

Most music / sound files could be found as mp3 here:

Maybe a developer is able to insert the files for RF.

One of these days I will look over the Remake files and see if the talking heads can't be added into GG. Don't hold your breath though as I've got a lot on my plate as is.

hmm... I think PGG has all the soundfiles in place. There are no animations, just a static picture of the "head"
